The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) - Communication Staff


The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) is a non-profit organization and operating under the formal agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Forest to conserve and rehabilitate orangutans. BOS manages orangutan rescue, rehabilitation and re-introduction programmes in East and Central Kailmantan. Work Post The successful applicants will work in a team for the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, based in Samboja, East Kalimantan.

Communication Staff

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, developing and implementing communication program.
  • Liaising with colleagues and key spokespeople.
  • Respond to enquiries from the public, media, individuals and other organizations.
  • Fostering community relations through community events and through involvement in community initiatives.
  • Fostering media relations through media events.
  • Researching, writing and distributing communication regular report.
  • Assist in preparing organizational documents such as annual reports and organization profiles.
  • Maintaining media contacts, networks and files.
  • Respond to enquiries from the media.
  • Writing and editing in-house magazines and articles.
  • Writing, editing and arranging production of newsletters, in-house magazines, pamphlets, brochures, leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia program.
  • Writing, preparing and distributing media clippings package, briefing notes, backgrounders, and other communications products.
  • Arranging interviews with journalists, prepare and distribute news releases and make statements to the media.
  • Organizing media events including press conferences, media visit, and editor’s meeting.
  • Maintaining and updating information on the organization's website.
  • Facilitating internal web requests.
  • Assist in preparing organizational documents such as annual reports and organization profiles.
  • Monitor organization news sources (print, radio, TV, web).

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years experience of communication or public relations or journalism.
  • Demonstrate fluent Bahasa Indonesia and English – both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrate creative writing ability as well as technical writing ability in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Interpersonal communication skills and ability to work as a team player to effectively interact with elected officials, staffs, media, government agencies and officials, and local community.
  • Knowledge and skills in using a variety of software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and skills in visual communications (photography, design, etc) are an advantage, but not required; preferably including some ability to use design software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Interest in conservation, particularly in orangutan conservation, and some understanding of relevant ethics, policies and procedures in conservation, particularly orangutan conservation.
  • Understanding of all media platforms, including social media, and associated technologies.
  • Ability to travel to various remote locations that sometimes requires stamina and endurance.
  • Highly motivated and ability to work in demanding and fast-paced work environment.
  • Organization and time-management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to be placed in East Kalimantan.
